some iss from day 4!

two of the readable ones, though overall i was pretty disappointed with that day's batch apart from the alien!woogyu.

this fic had a straightforward storyline which was easy to follow. the writing style flowed pretty well, i didn't see many glaring mistakes with the basic spelling/grammar/punctuation and stylistically it was readable apart from sometimes cliched narration. i did find that the dialogue sometimes could get a bit strange -- who actually uses the term "doodling purposes" while talking? or " I mean, as an apology for being really hostile in school"?

i thought the characterisation was consistent for the most part, but i'm not sure if i really believed it. howon had moments of alternating between being really shy and strangely aggressive, and while this may be a personal thing i really just can't see him stuttering, au or not. i also found it a bit weird that woohyun took notice of howon because he bought a coloured pen, of all things. i'm pretty sure that other guys come in and buy pens too! i think the author could have focussed on this part a bit more.

there were also little moments of inconsistency such as when howon is saying goodbye to woohyun, and suddenly random angst happens:
"Woohyun frowns and replies, "Don't. Never say goodbye, because goodbye means going away, and going away means forgetting."
this was a little misplaced considering the atmosphere of the scene.

the howon/woohyun relationship was also a little unrealistic to me. they seem to become close very quickly, which isn't a problem at all until woohyun jumps into "irrevocable love" territory. it is indicated at the end of the fic that it actually "might not be love" but apparently it's enough to make howon drop a prestigious scholarship for woohyun, which reads a little unrealistically!

the colour representation theme which followed through the fic was really cute and it was a nice little idea, trying to reveal something about people through the colours they like. at times the colour interpretations that woohyun make do seem like randomly tossed out purple prose in the middle of perfect ordinary paragraphs, which kind of threw me off:
He scans a whole bunch of reference books and frowns at a metallic blue pen buried at the bottom of the basket. Distance. Like the skies and the seas tearing people from different continents apart.

the pacing in this fic was fine to me, and the plot was straightforward and easy to read as well as engage with! i did feel that some scenes read like something straight out of a k-drama, like the airport scene (i'm not convinced it's that easy to suddenly drop plans like moving to another country, especially if it's just when your crush returns your feelings, but maybe i'm just the cynical type? ^^). but in general i thought it was this was a light easy read if you just take it at face value!
